RE>Cooling mods (radiators) The original Pantera radiators were poorly designed, the water passed = through one side of the radiator (front or back first I don't remember = which) then turns around and comes back the other side before exiting = (both the inlet and outlet are on the passenger side tank). This has the = bad side affect of pre-heating the air that passes throught the back half = of the radiator (1st or 2nd water pass). Also the separation between incoming and outgoing water in the passenger = tank was only made by a baffle inside the tank. That baffle was not too = securely mounted and had a habit of coming loose, allowing the water to = come in and go back out without going through the cooling fins at all. Most replacement radiators solve all of these deficiencies; i.e., they = have better separation between the inlet and outlet, they change the = water flow so that it passes across the top then down the bottom (not = front to back) to prevent the air preheat, and also they usually have = higher capacities. Some radiator even move the outlet to the other side = (more like normal American cars). And as James Rethwish pointed out, cooling fans can also make a big = difference. My car has a replacement radiator (with the aforementioned upgrades). It = has just the 2 stock fan motors, but with updated 8 blade fans. The only = other change to mine is that the fans are permanently wired on (no = thermostats). Mine has never overheated even in the hottest climate with = the A/C going (except for one occasion when one of the fan motors seized = up). But then again my Pantera has a fairly stock low compression motor. I know I've heard stories of Pantera's overheating, so I assume these mods are something done to aleviate that. What are the cooling mods? How much work is involved and what does it accomlish?
