A recent contributor recommended flushing the system every 3 years or = so. In that light, where do recommendations stand in regards to the = different DOT versions? I know that DOT 5 is a silicon based fluid that is resistant to water = retention, which is a problem with DOT3 fluid. This is why your fluid = comes out looking like dirt after only a short while in the system. DOT 5 is typically reserved for motorcycles and is not recommended for = autos due to heat problems of some sort. It would seem to be the magic = cure for rust prevention in cars driven little, if it weren't for this = problem with heat. (as I understand it.) In one of my recent projects, I started using a Castrol DOT 4 fluid = which is supposed to "exceed DOT 3 ....blah blah" It claims to resist = water absorbtion better than DOT 3 and perform better.... I am hoping = that this will be a cleaner solution. Any scientists out there that can shed some light on this situation? Steve
