I just put my clutch back together and only got about 1/8 of free play at = the slave. All that really matters is that you have "some" freeplay so = that the throwout bearing is not constantly hitting the clutch "fingers". = With some freeplay, the return spring will keep the throwout bearing off = the clutch as long as you get pressure off the the pedal. After disconnecting the spring at the slave cylinder, I have about 1/8" or a = tad more of play between the adjustment stop screw and the spring bracket. So I look in the manual, and IT says "....remove the adjustment stop = screw and nut and DISCARD" (my caps, not the manual's...) Does it really = mean that? Next step is remove boot and back off pushrod locknut; then ..."adjust = length of pushrod to give 3/4" of free play and clutch pedal retaining locknut" Something is missing, at least to me. I have not taken off the boot, so I do not know if it is obvious HOW you adjust the length of the pushrod. There is no mention of removing the = pin from the eyebolt end of the pushrod to allow it to turn, if that is how = it goes. Also, I assume the 3/4" of freeplay referred to is at the pedal? = But earlier in the verbage it says 1/4 to 7/16" at the pedal. As I said, I'm reluctant to disassemble what's working fine. It's funny that I can redo the clutch master cylinder, but I'm not yet getting this slave adjustment stuff.......... By the way, I tried the earlier described method of gaining some gas = pedal space by sheet metal screwing the panel to the inner console; and it gave another 3/4" about of foot width space on my car, too. Good info here. whatcop@aol.com (Chris Bupp, 74L #6588, '93 Mitsu 3000GT VR-4, '93 S-10 Blazer (wife's truck)) ------------------ RFC822 Header Follows ------------------ Received: by smtp.rc.trw.com with SMTP;16 Mar 1997 16:26:46 U Received: (from majordom@localhost) by tvol-gw.wgate.com (8.6.12/8.6.12) = id TAA10326 for detomaso-outgoing; Sun, 16 Mar 1997 19:15:10 -0500 Received: from emout20.mail.aol.com (emout20.mx.aol.com [198.81.11.46]) = by tvol-gw.wgate.com (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id TAA10316; Sun, 16 Mar = 1997 19:14:58 -0500 From: Whatcop@aol.com Received: (from root@localhost) by emout20.mail.aol.com (8.7.6/8.7.3/AOL-2.0.0) id TAA17984; Sun, 16 Mar 1997 19:17:31 -0500 (EST) Date: Sun, 16 Mar 1997 19:17:31 -0500 (EST) Message-ID: <970316191729_415081382@emout20.mail.aol.com> To: detomaso@wgate.com, detomaso-owner@wgate.com cc: Whatcop@aol.com Subject: Clutch adjustment Sender: owner-detomaso@wgate.com Precedence: bulk Reply-To: Whatcop@aol.com
