From: hohnhors@nosc.mil (Hohnhorst William L.) Subject: LAS VEGAS TRACK EVENT CANCELLED Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 09:07:12 -0800
Good Morning, On behalf of the Las Vegas Track Event Organizing Committee, it's with great disappointment that I have to tell you that we have had no choice but to cancel the Vegas Track event for this year. The cause of the cancellation is the Air Show that the Air Force is sponsoring at nearby Nellis AFB on the same Friday and Saturday of the Las Vegas weekend. Since the Air Force is expecting somewhere in the vicinity of 150,000 spectators arriving in 60,000 to 70,000 vehicles, they asked the Speedway to use their parking facilities. The Speedway agreed and as a result had to cancel us because they believed that the hassle of getting our members into and out of the track in the midst of this huge number of vehicles would be very difficult and frustrating to us and an additional hassle for their traffic control folks. So, they made the decision to cancel our event. As I said above, we are all very disappointed, but we had absolutely no choice. However, Vegas is still going to be a fantastic weekend. Plans have already been made to have a Red Rock run on Friday and of course the Air Show itself should be spectacular. So, come on out to Vegas and enjoy what is the largest gathering of Panteras and Pantera crazies in the world! See ya there! Bill Hohnhorst
