Gentlemen, In the quest to keep the DeTomaso up to par I have been detailing bits = and pieces as I am forced to deal with problems and shortcomings of = previous mechanics (or at least that's probably what they called = themselves...) Problem is that in a couple of months, the = nuts-bolts-washers etc have developed a fine layer of oxidation (rust) on = them. Mostly this is due to the fact that I fixed the engine ventilation = snafu that was causing it to do the "Valdez" to everything in the engine = compartment.... aack! Now things don't have that fine coat of motor oil = any longer to keep them dirty and rust free. Other than replacement with stainless components, new components, or = paint, what have you found, that works(!), for protecting freshly cleaned = (wire wheeled) pieces from this? Long term?? I've tried using "Galvaprep" with limited results. Heard rumors about = boiling things in ATF.... Eastwood has a "kit" for plating nuts and = bolts etc... never tried these yet, plus other "paint on stuff".... Eastwood has the following: -Tin-Zinc Electroplating System $70 (Looks simple.. locally available = materials instead of Eastwood? Any closet scientists out there?) Polishes = out to shiny silver finish. -Cold Galvanizing Compound $6.50 (spray can) 90% zinc coating- not for = primer or paint over. -Oxisolv- Non toxic-leaves gray zinc phosphate coating. $10 / 16 oz. = bottle. Thanks, Steve
