Just the cooling fan(s) kicking in - pretty likely in this sort of >testing - can cause a greater than 50 RPM idle drop in many cars. > >They're definitely over the top... > Not to mention a lot of cars even up to 20 years old have systems that INCREASE the idle speed when the engine heats up, to draw more air through the radiator while sitting idle. This sounds like an extremely STUPID test, given the vast array of complicated systems on cars. There just doesn't seem to be any real way to regulate it. Our biggest problem are these liberal environmental fanatics who are killing our passion bit by bit. One year it's emissions at idle, no rollers, the next it's emissions at road speed and idle, the next it's on rollers, the next it's this.... etc. Until you simply CAN'T pass unless you have a showroom stock car less than 3 years old. And typical car financing can be up to 10 years now. Gee... I'll be forced out of my car by the state BEFORE I've even paid for it. Now if that's not a plug for public transportation, the elimination of individualism, freedom and history, I don't know what is. DOESN'T EQUALITY SUCK !?!?!?!?!?!
