For those of you who know of the name of Lucas, here is the end of an era....from the Times yesterday.... THE name of Lucas, the company whose products have been responsible for lighting the way for millions of British cars since the birth of the automotive industry, may soon slip into the darkness. The company's new American masters, the Varity Corporation, said yesterday that they were considering a name change as part of a "worldwide identity review". Lucas Industries had 50,000 employees when it merged last year with the Buffalo-based Varity which had just 9,000. But it soon became clear that it was a takeover in reverse by the US company. Today the company announces its annual results, possibly the last time it will do so under the Lucas banner. Shane Ingate in San Diego Lucas lamps do not create light, they "suck dark".
