Hidee-Ho neighbors, I've wanted to do a 4.6 L swap in my Pantera and think that it's a good choice for a buildup. Although the 3.554 bore and 3.55 stroke make for a square "torquer" motor, the crank sits high into the block yielding increased rigidity(similar to the old Ford FE series of motors). A Cobra DOHC motor is all aluminum giving a weight advantage; the motor also comes with a forged crank. I am planning on twin turbo charging the motor the future, the stock cracked metal rods and hypereutectic pistons will need to be replaced. I talked to Mark Sanchez at Advanced Engineering West , he has a kit which consists of Cunningham "I" beam rods(4130 with 7/16" rod bolts), Arias pistons (longer skirt for strength and beefier pin boss), and Total Seal rings for $2400. ARP is producing head and main studs- although at this time they are not ready yet.The factory "stretch-to-yield" have got to go! The only other prep work would be to Extrude Hone or port the heads(especially the exhaust).Mark dynoed his motor at 565HP running 10lbs. of boost on a supercharger. I also talked to Cory at Collector's Choice who was very helpful; he sells the exhaust and conversion components as well as ignition systems to run the retrofitted motor.-Dave Lee
