Dave, You may want to check out the SAE paper on the road race development work done on the 4.6L DOHC engine. It's SAE 942474, written by Dan Yerace (Ford) and Dennis Corn (Roush Industries). Here's a quote you may find relevent: "Using the TOR Chart projections, the production 4.6L 4-Valve Modular Engine was evaluated to determine what parts needed to be improved for the program. Production design engineers indicated that many of the parts were designed for maximum output levels of 100 BHP/L. Since desired output levels were in the range of 130 BHP/L, upgrades had to be incorporated.... At the conclusion of the analysis phase, components requiring modification and redesign were identified."
