I visited Roland Jackel in Hamburg a week ago and saw a very cute kit for the Pantera. They had made new hats and fittings for the Brembo stuff found on the Porsche 993 Turbo. Looked VERY nice. They do have those rubber things in the calipers so you can drive them all year even in rain and snow. The calipers from Wilwood, APE and Lockhead that we have checked is all racing-only and demands dismantling at least once year according to the manuals. Roland Jackel and friends have experience of Wilwood and they thinks Brembo is superior. There is one draw back. They are not cheap, about $1500 for one wheel. That's about twice the price for Wilwood in Europe. I myself have bought Wilwood 4-calipers and the biggest ventilated discs that will fit inside the Campys. I have not had time to mount them yet but a friend did it just before our little reuniun at the factory last spring. He is very satisfied with them. There is a problem fitting the handbrake that's not solved. The e-brake is NOT recommended. The Swedish DeTomaso Club Bjorn Carlsson >>> Andy Poling <andy@realbig.com> 1997-04-02 03:56:33 >>> I also thought I'd get the list wisdom on brake upgrades. I'm planning on occasionally playing at the track, and I dont' think the stock brakes will stand up to 20 minutes at a time of continuous abuse on a 2.1 mi road course. The Hall "NASCAR" brakes look sexy, with their big rotors and calipers, but I understand that you have to switch to a line-lock parking brake (the old brake caliper won't fit the rotors) and that the company that makes them might not be around any more. The Wilwood brakes look a little less sexy, but they let you keep your original parking brake and get you a better caliper balance front to back than stock. Obviously the front pressure limiter has to go, but what else should I be looking at? There's a bewildering array of braking systems available from places like Hall and PPC... -Andy 72 Pantera: power 91 Miata: quickness 96 A4Q: traction 84 RZ350: all the above ! ! ! !
