A small crack in a Campy mag can be welded by a competent magnesium welder. Sand-blast the crack area (don't use chemical strippers 'cause you'll nerver get them out of the crack and they'll comtaminate the weld). Then stop-drill both ends of the crack. Prep the crack with a die-grinder & weld both sides. Then put the whole wheel in your wife's oven @ 275 degrees for 3 hrs. Turn the oven off, don't open it again until the next day- slow cooling is essential to anneal any stresses from welding. THen, grind the weld if desired, paint & you're done. Gary Hall used to have "reconditioned" wheels for $275 ea; I don't know how much they are currently, but whatever, don't throw the broken Campy away- most ARE fixable. My rt frt 8" was welded 8 yrs ago and survived autocrosses, 6 trips to Vegas etc. J DeRyke
