MOUSE EARS: With some reservations (dog ugly), I put these on last week for Silverstate Race (May 18) an had a chance last week to test bed them on on the way to/from Vegas. . . They do work. Ram Air will make up to 2.7% hp at 150 mph. The added benefit is my car ran about 5-10 degrees cooler. The run up Mt. Charleston is very much like the Silverstate course (IE, elevation, 2-lanes, sweeper turns, etc) so I had a good chance to dial in the car. I am much impressed with the Hall air box and side vents. I would recommend it. And I would agree with the suggestion that pulling air off the roof is even better. TIRES&WHEELS: I can't speak to street wheel & tire combos. In researching race tires/wheel combinations I spoke to boucoup so-called experts (75-100) and got 76-101 opinions. Interestingly, I got we don't got those tires from Tire Rack and others. . . Check for yourself. . . After being told twice that BFG didn't make such a tire I dealed direct with the BFG people. For those who want to race stock rims the consensus was go with BFG TA R-1 Race Tires. On stock rims the 255/60-15 & 225/60-15 tire combo is perfect. The BFG Team T/A people are very active in racing and I found them to be the "most" supportive of "poor-boy" racers. The R-1 tires are race ready. I went with the 60 aspect tires for a couple reasons. The rear tires are 27.1" tall. You'll turn 768 revs compared with 819 revs for the 265/50-15 R-1'. This is the tire to run high end on. I also like this particular combo because the tires are vintage sized and look great on the stock Campy wheels on the stock bodied Pantera's. Also shames the Corvette & high tech people), sorry Captain Sensible but I'm sentimental for the 70's. Remember, that was the period when you were sheeting yellow! PROLUBE/PROLONG: The stuff Captain sensible uses on his member. The argument was clearly made at the Vegas Tech Session a week ago that if you HAVE to use this stuff drain it after you race your engine so that your bearings and busings don't get eaten. I like Red Line and/or Traco race oil to race with. I also think Mobil-1 is good stuff for the street. To Mike Cook and my older brother who worship Kendall Racing Oil - Mea Culpa. WEBERS/NEW AGE 90'S STUFF: Hey, Captain Sensible (and Chief Jack) I think I mentioned this already but I'll say it again. For those of us romantic slobs who don't want to live with a lap top PC I say give me Webers. I KNOW the work that goes in to dialing in Webers (I ran 45DCOE's on my Jag E-type) but once they are set up they sing. My side drafts never leaked, never had a problem in 5 years. No elevation problems either. Nothing sounds quite like Webers Now I gotta say all those logical arguments you both made sound good but love and passion isn't about being sensible. If it was we'd all drive Dodge Darts.
