Cooling vents on the front deck lid serve some purpose, but they also fall into the "fad" category like rear wings and special mirrors. If you want an "updated" or "modified" Pantera, go for it. If you want to stay closer to stock, you may want to forget about the vents and other items that are vulnerable to trends and popularity swings. Panteras evoke many passions. Bone stock to highly modified is acceptable when it comes to these cars. As time goes on, some owners are trying to get back to the stock look, while others can't wait to turn their cars into a Group 4 or 5. If you plan to keep the car long term, any modifications that were available on later cars are generally fully accepted. For instance, front vents or blacked out trim do not turn other owners off. On the other hand, custom made flairs or wings from outer space may not please some of the other people at shows (if you care about these sort of things). If you plan to resell the car in the not too distant future, the more modifications you make to the car, the potentially lower pool of buyers you may find. The most important thing to remember is....have fun with the car within the limits of your budget. Most other exotic cars are untouchable. Panteras, on the other hand, were never fully developed when they hit the market. Creative people all over the world have adopted this car in an effort to make it even better than the original. Hope this helped. I did get some great Pantera pics in the parking lot... Jeff or Dan's soothing blue "L" model with blacked out trim...from Colorado. It sported some nice mods... reduced firewall bulge, exhaust crossover, Weber style carbs, Daytona mirrors?, 17" Etoiles. There certainly where some fine examples extolling pride of ownership. I understand that a photo registry is being championed by a local Vegas Pantera owner of a nearly identical car to the aforementioned though starburst blue. (plate: FLYER 1). Any further info on this? Hey we even saw a Pantera shod with minilites !! Can anyone offer opinions on cooling grills on front deck lid. Regarding Pantera owners...there is no friendlier group of people, always eager to share with others the deTomaso experience. Thanks, see ya in Monterey! Brent
