I'll try to answer your questions based on general knowledge of car electrical

systems. I do not think the problems are related.



1. The horn works only occasionally.

A/ Likely a defective horn switch. Try to bypass the original with a known

working switch. If this doesn't help, verify that you have a good voltage at

the horns with horn switch depressed. If you have a good voltage, the horn is

probably bad.





2. The driver's door electric window stops working. To get it to

start working I hand crank a couple of rounds and it works. I replaced the

gear to no effect.

A/ Has the window stoppped working suddenly or as a result of some changes

being made in the door electrical or mechanical system? Sounds like either

the mechanism is just jamming in the end position due to wear or misalignment

or the limiting switch that turns the motor off in the end position is

broken/wired incorrectly.



3. The brake lights comes on only when the brake petal is pressed

hard.

A/ Seems like a worn out switch. It operates with brake hydraulic pressure.



4. The windshield wiper will not go off easily. It must be turned

on and off repeatedly before it will go off.

A/ Either a broken switch that sticks in the "on" position or a problem with

the parking function in the wiper motor. Eliminate the possibility of a shot

switch before getting a new motor!



I'll leave the transmission overhaul recommendations to someone in your

'hood!
