Subject: Oil pressure fluctuations

All,

Just querying the collective wisdom of the group.



When I am running at a constant throttle, my oil pressure (1972 model)

reads about 53 lb/sq.inch (oil warm, 15/50 Mobil 1, 10qt oil pan).  Occassionally,

I see the guage drop to about 40 lb/sq.inch, sometimes 35, fluctuate for several seconds,

then return to 53.  It did this for the run between Baker & Las Vegas (160 miles?),

but between Baker and San Diego, there was no change at all!



Do others notice such a fluctuation?  Should I be worried?  What could cause

it?  Worn oil pump?  Lint on the oil-pump pickup filter screen?
