Gary Hall told me years ago that he had done some airflow tests with various scoops, and that the "pretty" ones that only come out a couple inches are only for looks. The big Earmuffs (or Elephant Ears as I call them) apparently do get out in the boundary layer. I tried the old yarn trick when I used to have them on my car, and sure enough air was blowing out of the inside opening.
