Reply to: RE>stock air cleaner, etc. James wrote asking about the auxilliary inlet doors (flappers) on the = aircleaners, that he had only found two in two years and that they were = bad. I used to have some NOS ones about 5 years ago. Used one and sold the = others for $100 each. Those were the last ones I've ever seen new. There = was a person advertising in Hemmings Motor News for repairs to these = things. If I can find it, I'll forward it to ya! They were used on: 69/70 390's, 428CJ (non ram-air), and Boss 302's in = Mustangs and Cougars, Fairlanes, Comets, I'll take any of these air = cleaners that you have! They are smaller in diameter than the ones used = on the Pantera and the fresh air snorkle is much different. Then again in = 71-73, these flappers showed up on Hipo Clevelands again in the Mustang = and Cougar families (probably on Fairlanes too). These aircleaners should = be the same as the Pantera. (excluding changes made to fit into the P-car = like moving the air inlet to the rear...) You should be able to make a = suitable replacement that no one will be able to tell from the original = "Italian crafted" version quite easily. I've also heard of people "repairing" these units by pouring liquid = latex of sorts into them to seal the leak but I know not of how long this = could be expected to last. Steve -buy my toys- -------------------------------------- Date: 4/30/97 14:17 To: Steve Liebenow From: James M. Rethwish Hi All, Perhaps somebody out there can help me locate a couple of parts. My '74 Pantera had been completely de-smogged by a previous owner. I've since rounded up almost all original parts, with two notable exceptions. First is the auxillary air door for the air cleaner housing. I've been checking the wrecking yards here in San Diego for two years, and have found only two of the vacuum motor units. Neither worked. These must have only been on HiPo engines. The other item is a three-way vacuum switch that mounts near the right rear of the motor. It has a cylindrical, blue plastic cap on it. Not sure if its part of the EGR or distributor plumbing. Anybody know of good sources for old Ford HiPo parts that might be able to help me out? Thanks, Jim Rethwish PS - Did '74 models have some sort of air scoop that fed the snorkel via a flex hose? If so, where was the scoop located? ------------------ RFC822 Header Follows ------------------ Received: by unixlink with SMTP;30 Apr 1997 14:16:47 -0800 Received: from glacier.wise.edt.ericsson.se by eur.ericsson.se = (8.6.12/EUR-Dublin) id OAA06673; Wed, 30 Apr 1997 14:19:09 -0700 Received: from tvol-gw.wgate.com (majordom@tvol-gw.wgate.com = [204.183.169.1]) by glacier.wise.edt.ericsson.se = (8.7.5/8.7.3/glacier-0.9) with SMTP id UAA00739; Wed, 30 Apr 1997 = 20:34:23 +0200 (MET DST) Received: (from majordom@localhost) by tvol-gw.wgate.com (8.6.12/8.6.12) = id NAA05107 for detomaso-outgoing; Wed, 30 Apr 1997 13:09:37 -0400 Received: from hj.tvol.com (hj.tvol.com [38.219.83.2]) by = tvol-gw.wgate.com (8.6.12/8.6.12) with ESMTP id NAA05103 for = <detomaso@tvol-gw.wgate.com>; Wed, 30 Apr 1997 13:09:34 -0400 Received: from trout.nosc.mil (trout.nosc.mil [128.49.16.7]) by = hj.tvol.com (8.8.3/8.8.3) with SMTP id NAA09955 for <detomaso@wgate.com>; = Wed, 30 Apr 1997 13:11:47 -0400 (EDT) Received: from manta.nosc.mil by trout.nosc.mil (4.1/SMI-4.1) id AA21020; Wed, 30 Apr 97 10:12:43 PDT Received: from pillar.nosc.mil by manta.nosc.mil (4.1/SMI-4.1) id AA19746; Wed, 30 Apr 97 10:12:43 PDT Received: from PILLAR/MAILQUEUE by pillar.nosc.mil (Mercury 1.13); Wed, 30 Apr 97 10:12:40 PST Received: from MAILQUEUE by PILLAR (Mercury 1.13); Wed, 30 Apr 97 = 10:12:36 PST From: "James M.
