From: Pantera International <panteras@fia.net> Subject: Mike Drew Editorial in POCA Profiles Date: Mon, 9 Jun 1997 22:19:19 -0700 (PDT)
Dear Newsgroup Readers, We here at Pantera International just received the latest Profiles, which is up to its usual high standards. Being POCA members since 1974 and having edited that publication for several years as well, we appreciate Mike's tireless work and enthusiasm. Thank you Mike and those who contribute as well. We can never get enough information on this, the best of all marques. The commentary made by Mike hit home in more ways than one. Although not all of his conclusions were in our judgement totally correct, we applaud his courage in publishing this editorial. As a matter of clarification, we have never had a problem with POCA. There must always be a POCA to run events and have chapters, etc. Likewise, there will always be a Pantera International. There is room at the top. Sadly, POCA, through some of its leaders have lost track of some of the things that had made it a great organization in the past. Pantera International may have also lost track when too much time was wasted concerning this organization with what type of gamesmanship was in store next. When new leaders of POCA were elected, we knew that there was a chance for change. Thus, through the efforts of Mike Drew and his valuable advice, we trusted him. Our relationship with the northern California chapter has flowered into a terrific relationship. In researching back pages of Pantera International, we noted that PI used to have chapters long before POCA got into that organization. Our first chapter was in Northern California and may have even been the early roots of the present club. Thus, we embrace the comments made by Mike Drew and whether we totally agree or not, it is constructive criticism because Mike gets nothing back other than seeing that the marque is improved and that petty misunderstandings between leaders with egos, as he views it, disrupt and spoil what could be a perfect world in marque clubs, namely the DeTomaso marque. As we approach Monterey, we are excited about the cooperation and respect between clubs that has emerged. We must credit Mike Drew for this, assuming as much good as he predicts comes out of this. It was his efforts that held out the olive branch first. We only hope that Mike does not incur the wrath of any individuals who cannot stand the heat. In terms of the direction where POCA was going, we had actually given up our POCA membership. It was Mike that got us to stay on board with POCA and for the first time in years, encouraged us to write for the 'Profiles magazine. That says a lot for this man. In closing, Mike Drew is the Henry Kissinger of the Pantera world, (but not quite as good looking or quite as ethnic). He is the King of all rental car trashers. Here at PI, we have not added your picture to our wall of fame.
