RE>Up In Smoke? 7/1/97 Roy, Never let the government get in the way of your fun! Use the government = to have fun! As previously mentioned in this forum, if registration/smog = hassles are getting you down, there's always Oklahoma(?) or was it = Nebraska where you can register your beast site unseen, probably cheaper = than in your state! Get new plates in the mail! Then there are classic/antique plates available, some with broader = terms for registration requirments such as smog checks... limited = mileage.... keep two speedo's handy!.... IMHO, clunker laws are doomed to fail. Abuse, poor execution, and the = fact that our governing bodies are slowly reallizing that it's not the = un(under)driven cars causing the smog, but the big companies that are = benefitting from these laws... geez that made me dizzy! With the passage = of SB42 in CA (please please please!), it will send a signal that we do = not want to be a part of this "solution" and that the government will have= to look at big business to clean up their own and stay out of our back = yard! enuf soapbox.... If you purchase a reasonably stock Pantera, you should have NO problems = attaining smog spec's used for testing. These cars were built before the = requirements tightened up a great deal. These specs are wide open, for = the most part, and are easily attainable even with mild performance work = done to the engine. This of course does not speak for = not-legal-for-use-in-Smogafornia-equiped-vehicles... parts. So, beware of = the"legal" supercharged weber setup..... stick to a nice stock looking = vehicle and you will have years of fun with only perhaps occasional = intervention by the law, but typically this is self induced.....! Go ahead, buy it! Steve -------------------------------------- Date: 6/28/97 11:23 To: Steve Liebenow From: Roy DeHaven I have seriously thought of purchasing a 72 Pantera for the last few years now. However, the drum beat from legislatures in Florida, California and now my homestate of Texas on tougher smog testing and "clunker" laws have me reconsidering other options. I would be interested in knowing how Pantera owners are dealing with this situation. Is my dream of ownership literally . . . "going up in smoke"?
