There's one other remote possibility: how long is your dipstick? A guy called me a few days back, ready to sue his engine builder. Seems he had over 2000 miles on a new engine and it still smoked. Obviously the rings never seated. By chance he mentioned the smoking went away when it was a qt or two low. Eventually we got around to measuring, and his dipstick was 1-1/2" shorter than stock! He'd been faithfully pouring 10 qts into his 10-qt oil pan, not realizing that most "10-qt pans" hold about 8 qts. Proper length per the TSB (5) #34 is 38" from tip to the stop that touches the guide tube. Mine is 38-1/8". ==============================================================================
