As I mentioned earlier, my gear drive starter from McLeod has worked well for 5 or 6 yrs. You do need the "automatic" spacer to make them fit. And because of the 3/4" thick spacer, you can't just throw in a gear drive starter. The stock Pantera starter is held by a nut on a stud (outside) and a bolt (near the pan). Both will be too short with the required spacer. And you can't easily use a bolt where the stud used to be. You may need to make your own stud out of a metric bolt of the proper length, as I did. I got one of the 1st sold, so wasn't surprised when I found the solenoid was 'clocked' into the casting number pad on the 351C block. A few minutes with a die grinder fixed that. Gear-drives are 5-1/2 lbs lighter which makes bench-pressing the things into place a bit easier, though.... J DeRyke ==============================================================================
