You can dampen the ammeter response by adding a brass strip between the terminals on the back of the ammeter. This creates a "shunt" or a parallel circuit so minor fluctuations don't whip the needle side to side. Shrink- tube insulate the brass strip for safety. The wider the strip the larger precentage of current it will carry and the smaller the gauge response. But if this just started, you may haver a short from vibration, engine torque or something, so adding a damper shunt will be like a bandage on a bullet hole- there may be a deeper problem! My strong point is NOT electrics- maybe someone else...? J DeRyke ==============================================================================
