Two tires inflated to the same pressure might have different runout, and thus not only do weird things to your handling but also sizzle your differential. Try checking inflation and making sure they're the same, then run a tape measure around the circumference of both tires. If they're not the same, or darn close at least, maybe that's the problem. Of course, I've never felt a ZF after a long run. Maybe they just run hot. Too, doesn't the gearbox case act like a giant heat sink, and absorb heat directly from the engine block?
