I also have a new Centerforce clutch in my P. My P is a fairly stock 74; = just closed chamber heaads with stock dished pistons, Edelbrock F351 = manifold, Holley 750 DP, port plates, GTS exhaust, and a mild cam. I = only have about 1000 miles on it so far, but am completely happy with its = performance in my car. I cannot comment on the supposed reduced clutch = effort, my car was apart for 5 years just prior to the clutch = installation. I do believe that the Centerforce clutch is not really designed for = racing applications. It is based on the newer style diaphragm design, = unlike the original Long style clutch. The diaphragm style clutch is = designed to produce a lighter clutch feel, but I don't believe it = produces the clamping force of the Long style. The Centerforce attempts = to increase the clamping force by adding weights to the diaphragm fingers = to increase the clamping force with increasing RPM. The weights produce = centrifugal force with increased RPM, hence the Centerforce name. Well Nobbie, 1) Your engine may not be putting out the 400 HP Dave talks about. And = you most likely will not run your engine over 6000 without further mods. 2) I've run one in my car for 3 years now (and it was put there by the = previous owner) and have had no problems. I really like it too (the clutch and car!). My = engine puts out darn near if not over just 400 HP (at the flywheel). And, I do use it = hard, right up to 6000+ rpms quite often (I love to romp it alot! 0-60 in 4.6!). So, I'm right on = that border Dave talked about. This was news to me, and it may be worth getting a few more opinions. = But I've atleast provided one positive. And I'd like to hear of someone that has run one = for sometime at HP over 400 and 7000 rpms. Anyone? Curt T. 1TO9 MPG and using that clutch! ---------- From: Nobbie Sent: Friday, August 08, 1997 3:08 AM To: detomaso@wgate.com Subject: RE: Centerforce clutches DISSED! I don't race the "P" but I do like to romp on it from time to time. Did I make a mistake?
