David, there's a really good article on diffs in Circle Track mag this month. In it, the experts say to keep your diff fluid below 250 degrees, because the ring & pinion are tempered at around 300 degrees and the metal goes soft after a while @ 300. Shouldn't be a problem to check yours. Keep in mind, our ZFs have posi clutches that slip & generate heat so your temp will vary depending on road straightness & velocity. For your winter project, consider pulling your ZF, stripping it and drilling out the cast-in-place bosses & internal passages for the factory diff cooler (rt side near speedo mount). The smallblock GT40s had an oil cooler radiator mounted there w/ductwork to deck scoops. Really looks trick (Note the ZF transmission was run upside down in the GT40 & 'goose when you drill).
