From: DtomasoCat@aol.com Subject: Child Seat in a Pantera Date: Sun, 3 Aug 1997 12:16:36 -0400 (EDT)
Nobbie and All, I designed a child seat for our Pantera before Joshua was born over two years ago. I fabricated a "stand" which sits on top of the console. The child seat sits on top of the stand and is held in place by the shoulder harness belts. The reason for the stand beneath the seat is to facilitate shifting. It works great. The entire unit raises the child seat up to where the top of the seat is touching the headliner. Joshua, even as a tiny baby was able to see out any window and not stuck looking at the door panels like in other cars. He really loved it. As Joshua grew, I removed the stand from under the seat and now have it resting directly on the console. It is still possible to shift though not as easily as with the stand. I narrowed the child seat base to fit between the seats. It has a five point harness which keeps Joshua better buckled up than us! I purchased the child seat from Toys 'R Us. It is a COSCO #02-792-STR. By the way a friend in Albuquerque also had a baby recently and he copied my stand and used an entirely different seat and it works great too! Pantera International Showed a picture of my stand with the seat attatched in the Fall '95 Issue (#84) on page 61. Check it out, make one, put the kid in it and drive, drive, drive. Joshua has logged over 5000 miles in this seat in the Pantera and will be traveling to Monterey in it adding another 3000 miles before he's done. Oh, by the way, I will be displaying the car with the child seat in it at Concours Italiana so if you would like to check it out, stop by!
