The ZF DS 25 comes with 3 final ratios: The normal, 4.22:1, the more high,

from my memory I think it is 4.02:1, and the "Le Mans ratio" of 3.77:1. Roy

Butfoy's price for another final drive is about a couple of thousand

dollars.



I had never heard of the higher 5th gear too, but it appears to exist: Look

at Shane's cyber registry from august 1st.,1997. You can see here that Mad

Dog plans to mount a Butfoy 5th tall gear.



I think it will be a better idea to mount a taller 5th gear than to mount a

higher final ratio, otherwise you will kill the performance with the high

gearing. Of my two almost identical Volvo's, my wifes is quicker than mine,

because mine (that is newer and has more HP) has been killed by a taller

gearing, probably to save some drops of gas.



A higher 5th gear will be a good improvement in the autobahn, allowing you

to keep higher sustained speeds, but without killing the acceleration in

the lower gears.
