To all, Just a note about Mikes Cobra. I got to see it on the day of the Concours Italiana in Monterey. It really is a sharp looking car and I was very interested in hearing the comments of Shane (and others) after riding in it. Not to badmouth a Cobra in anyway, Mike, but I agree with your statement that loud cars actually give a sense that they are faster than they really are. The feeling is accentuated when you remove the top of the automobile and have the scenery and most especially, wind rushing by attacking your head from every direction. That is actually why I don't like roofless cars. In New Mexico, if you wear contact lenses (as I do) you can kill someone in a heartbeat driving your convertible down the road as the dust attacks your eyeballs (feels like someone sticking you in the eyes with a pin, very unpleasant) and you veer off the road wracked with pain! As a side note to this sonopsis of the Cobra, I should like to tell you of a friend of mine who ownes both a Cobra and a Pantera. The Cobra is a kit version, as Mikes is, and also has a genuine 427 side oiler, 4 speed, and is built to specs that make it very difficult to tell it from an original Cobra. He purchased his Pantera, brand new in 1973 from a LM dealer in Albuquerque. He Turbo-charged the Pantera in 1975. I have spoken with him at length about both cars. His Pantera had only a large single turbo setup on it but he stated many times that the Pantera was faster (all around) than his Cobra. Still the best car on the road and always will be no matter what anyone ever can tell me, is a Pantera. So there.
