Does anyone know what the piston variations were in the 4V/CJ 351C's used in the Panteras from '71 to '74? Were flat tops used in all years or did later years get dished pistons in addition to open chamber heads? I've seen compression specs listed that say 10.7:1 in '71, 8.6:1 in '72, and 8.0:1 in '73 and '74. One source implies the drop from 8.6:1 to 8.0:1 was through larger volume open chamber heads and another implies dished pistons were responsible. I'm specifically interested in my '74. The engine only has 17,000 miles on it and runs fine but I've got a couple of sets of Aussie 2V heads and a couple of manifolds (a Weiand X-celerator and an Edelbrock Performer) to play with. If the pistons are dished, I'll probably spring for a set of K-B hypereutectic pistons or a set of TRW forged flat tops. I plan on adding an MPG head services windage tray, a true roller timing set, Harland Sharp roller rockers, custom 1 3/4" headers, and a 750 CFM Edelbrock AFB carb at the same time. Oil restrictor pushrods, a stiffer bypass spring in the oil pump, and a 10 quart pan are also possibilities. I'm undecided on the cam specs and valve sizes. Then there's the stroker based on the Aussie block to consider... Later, Dan Jones ==============================================================================
