In 1983, Ted Mitchell wrote a Tech Info article for P.I. on clutch adjustment, quote -Pg 5: "Adjust the screw for the proper gap (between the adj. screw & the bracket). The manual calls for .012-.016". I use less, about 1/16''. This gap, when pulled closed by the spring, takes the throwout bearing off the clutch so it won't wear out, so a small amount is enough, but BEWARE: (normal) clutch wear makes this gap smaller, so you must check it regularly if you use a small gap....I hope you have more (free air gap- flywheel to clutch plate) than some I've measured (.026" or so). If you don't have at least this much, something is very wrong...." Better get better batteries for your 'research' tool, Mike.
