Noticed in an article written in Jan '77 (P.I info sheet) that ZF gears are only sold in pairs. Thus if you wear out a synchro and the conical cone on one gear, ZF recommends replacing BOTH the mainshaft gear and the mating countershaft gear. If this is SOP, no wonder repairs are so pricey. The author of the piece was in Holland at the time and went directly to ZF for parts, manuals and advice. No longer possible since our box is apparently out of production & it'e rumored R. Butfoy bought all remaining parts. FYI: Dan Miller says Bob Harrington of San Diego Panteras rebuilt his unit and many others in the club "reasonably", after a Butfoy rebuild got Dan for $4500, so get quotes if possible!
