As a Chevron dealer I must tell 'ya.... there ain't no substitute for lead! If you want it, there are a few states that actually still sell a real lead additive but you have to fill out a waiver for interstate transport. We've been working on motors at two facilities since long before the 70's (when motors and parts started to change over for unleaded use) and have never seen a problem, ever, that was attributed to the lack of lead in the fuel. There are no engine components you can buy after about 1975 that would require a leaded fuel! If your engine was rebuilt after that time period, you have nothing to worry about. In, addition, we have refueled 10's of thouands of stock vehicles built prior to that time period which have yet to experience a related problem. I see people adding lead sub constantly and the only thing I can tell you is that 'substitutes' do more damage than good. SIDE NOTE: You people who have whined about the new fuel are barking up the wrong tree! I began pumping this fuel in your cars in Feb of 96.. yes 96. The oil companies just didn't tell you til later!! Thats about 250,000 gallons of fuel every month since and not one fuel leak or problem related to the new gas! Drew told a story about some idiot with a Porsche that started leaking 2 weeks into the new fuel being released. Well.... he was pumping that for some time and hadn't changed any rubber for at least ten years. Who to blame... hmmmmm. Listen.... The oil companies are not going to sell you a gas that will fry your car! They wanna sell it, not make gasoline autos obsolete! This new fuel burns hotter and more efficiently than any fuel ever. Period. It's good shit. I've had people tell me it increased their mileage, decreased their mileage, made it faster, slower etc, etc. I find that most people when grilled are only spouting off the shit that was told to them by someone else, who of course heard it from someone else. No first hand accounts yet.... and it's been how many months?!?!?! Had a guy tell me his mechanic told him the 'check engine' lite wouln't go out 'cause of the new fuel. Yeah right.... good mechanic. Both my Tigers, 67 Mustang, our late model cougar, honda and yes even the Pantera run perfect on this fuel. A pretty fair assessment of new fuel was done in, I believe, Motor Trend a few months ago and they found no problems.... even stated how great it was. Chevron spent close to 10 mil figuring this problem out that the state and the feds handed them. They will do anything to keep our cars on the road and sell us gas. DONOT use a non-major brand fuel... EVER. This product has a crude octane in the 50's!!! It's octane is boosted to street levels with an addittive. This additive with leave residue every where and will eventually clog injectors, jets, gumm up throttle bodies etc etc. Most small time oil companies are buying crude fuel from the majors because they could not afford to manufacture the new fuel (very expensive). They do their octane boost trick and pass the gas on to you. (no pun intended!) Thats why the little guys like rotten robbie, fast gas etc USED to be ALOT cheaper than the major gas companies. They were selling an inferior product. NOW they are buying wholesale from the majors and using a cheaper method to boost ocatane. Hence, major and minor oil company gas prices have gotten a little close together. Your going to see a lot of mom & pops go out of business at the end of 98 because the tank laws are changing, state/fed fees are changing (going way up) and oil companies are changing their marketing philosophy. They want big pumpers not neighborhood corner stations. OK... my fingers are sore. etc.... ==============================================================================
