I'm throwing this out to the tech gurus on the list. One small disclaimer, since I have not purchased a Pantera of my own, the car in question is an old Datsun sports car. I thought it might be useful info for the list members and, to be honest, the technical expertise in this group is worlds beyond the Z car list. Please don't send Mad Dog after me. I'm just cuttin' my teeth. I have the suspension out of the car in preparation for a brake upgrade, swap to urethane bushings, and general refurbishing. Here are the questions: 1a. Should I use urethane bushings or stay with the factory rubber pieces? Urethane bushings seem to be all the rage on the Z car group, but I'm a firm believer that you never get something for nothing. What is the downside of using urethane bushings? 1b. If urethane bushings are the way to go what is the current thinking on eliminating the squeaking that occurs in some applications. I have heard everything from silicone spray applied once a month to a liberal application of grease during assembly. 2. Part of the brake upgrade is a switch to cross-drilled rotors. There is a metal shield covering the inboard side of the factory rotor. What are the pros and cons to removing this shield? 3. Last question. I was originally going to repaint the suspension components that are susceptible to rust. These are stamped and welded steel control arms. Now I am considering powder coating these items to gain the chip resistance. Would there be any reason not to powder coat these components? Also, is sandblasting and acid dipping the best prep procedure for this type of application? That's it. Hey, at least I've moved up from the car wash question I asked a few months back.
