Forest, Before you go spending all that hard earned cash, check the following. Your problem could just be the lack of enough clutch disengagement. I have always believed that the clutch was the cause of the 2nd gear synchro problem, and if yours is not that far gone yet, you might be able to solve the problem with a clutch adjustment. Look up the archives on how to get the most disengagement of your clutch with adjustment of the free play on the slave cylinder. Keep the free play as small as possible (1/16 inch), but check it often. After adjustment check the air gap between the pressure plate and the clutch disk through the inspection plate on the bell housing (don't force the feeler gauge in by compressing the marcel springs on the disk). You should be able to get .026 inch gap (more is wonderful). Always be sure to push the clutch pedal to the floor when shifting (especially 1st to 2nd). Good luck!
