Hey kids, With all the handwringing, pissing and moaning I'm hearing about SMOG II (including people talking about selling their cars because they can't pass smog????) I thought I'd pass this along, came to me last week from a guy on the forum who took my advice regarding Oklahoma plates to heart... Mike --------------------- Forwarded message: Subj: OKIE PLATES (UPDATE) Date: 97-09-26 22:32:20 EDT From: Oswalt Hut To: MikeLDrew Mike, Well, just thought I'd drop you a quick note to let you know my Oklahoma plate arrived in the mail today. Already bolted it on and am ready to rock and roll again! Talked to Kim and gave her the military angle to get the job done. What a deal: 1) Only cost me $32 (actual registration should only run about $20/yr but had to chip in some extra for out of state title and tire disposal, etc.) Compare that with Texas wanting $52/yr! Less than half price! 2) Only one plate needed for rear (no front plate to worry about)! 3) No emissions tests to worry about (didn't have any in Texas anyway, but nice to know if I go somewhere else) 4) No need to worry about safety inspection sticker (another cost saver since my Texas sticker had just expired and they sometimes wonder why I have no emergency brake!) Thanks for the great tip. Still have to figure out why I'm carrying Oklahome plates with a Texas drivers license and a Texas address, but I think I can cross that bridge when I come to it. In the meantime, I'm closer to "legal" than I was before and at less than half the cost! Adios for now. Ron Oswalt ("Iceman")
