My thought on gaskets and sealers is when the gasket is well designed by a good company, you use it alone. It will come with the needed adhesives and prep built in, or clearly described. When things become special, using non stock parts and otherwise going for more power and changing things, use a general purpose sealant. Silicon used to be a favorite. Then I found Yamabond Yamaha, non hardening, motorcycle case sealer for engines/transmissions. 'thought to be the best. a seal on the gas tank ought to be seal only, no addition. Valve cover should have come with one side sealant only, so other comes free with dissassembly. So, only glue one side. Intake manifold and valley cover better with Yamaha product if nothing provided by the factory. Again one side only, for ability in dissassembly. Not sure about the first, the strips. What WOULD work is weatherstrip adhesive, put on both parts, then joined contact-wise. But I would research the industrial guys for good adherance to whatever type of "rubber you are going to use." Not sure about card gaskets. Same ideas hold Do it carefully.
