RE>>Pedal Travel = 11/7/97 Yup, travel is something that these gas pedals don't do well. You = actually have a couple of options.... move the pivot point on the pedal = up, to shorten the mechanical advantage (actually increase it...) or = fabricate (Jack likes that word...) an extension on the carb throttle = arm, to effectively lengthen it so that the pivot is further away from = the centerline of the throttle blade shaft. The latter is probably the = easiest..... no "on the back work!" You may be able to take some of the "slop" out of the pedal by using a = couple of light springs on it, perhaps one pulling each way, and I do = mean lite! We don't need any full throttle stuff going on 'cause the = return spring on the engine broke!!!! Actually, now that I think of it, = a small spring pulling the pedal "back" or "up" could be the ticket, = maybe.... just so long as this wouldn't react faster than the throttle = return and cause the cable to get balled up.... It's sort of a cheesy = design.... ask anyone who has broken the bastard off and had to get home = without it! I seem to remember at least one post about that...... Kind = of one of those engineering things..... look at it a while, see what you = come up with... and let the rest of us know! and mount a spare...... Steve -------------------------------------- Date: 11/7/97 14:16 To: Steve Liebenow From: Melton, Charles P Ack, the thing tends to be WOT or "off"...the range is something like an inch or 2 at most. It's real "sloppy" at the top....yea, the cable just flops around next to the speaker... No stock bracket, eh ? Hmmmm. =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D Yea, I was planning to check WOT, as I am starting to get into the carb etc.... I borrowed an old Holley book. ---------- From: Steve Liebenow Sent: Friday, November 7, 1997 6:55 PM To: Charles Melton Subject: Pedal Travel Charles, WOT is the most important thang to check....and free unobstructed return travel for the carb linkage....!!!! At rest, the cable linkage is a sloppy thing. There is no stop that holds it for beans, so basically the thing just hangs there. Check for full throttle open when pedal is fully depressed to stop. If not wide open, then adjust accordingly to get full travel. Broken pedal?? Someone probably wanted more than the 'ol 351 could give, and continued to push well past the stop.... something had to give and it wasn't the stop. I saw the welding... looks good, wouldn't worry about it....
