This response is a little late, but better late than never. I've got 225-45ZR 16's on the front of my 1972 Copper Pre-L and they work great. The first set I tried were 225-50ZR 16's, but they rubbed a little when I went around corners and hit bumps at the same time. A perfect example was pulling into my driveway. With just a little too much speed, the tires would rub against the body with the 225-50ZR 16's. the following dimensions may be useful to you in making a choice. All measurements are in inches. Size Rim Section Diameter Tread Width 225-50ZR 15 6.0 8.9 23.9 7.9 225-45ZR 16 7.5 8.9 24.0 7.9 225-50ZR 16 6.0 8.9 24.9 8.5 245-45ZR 16 8.0 9.6 24.8 8.8 235-40ZR 17 8.5 9.5 24.4 8.1 I think the 245-45ZR 16's are a great way to go, but I believe I would have still had a clearance problem with these. Most (if not all) Pre-L's have a slightly smaller front wheel clearance area. As a result, I took the conservative route. I also selected the Dunlap 8000 tires. They have performed great and I have no problem recommending them to others. Although I originally had Goodyear GS-C's (and I loved them), Goodyear doesn't make the 225-45ZR 16 that I felt I needed to get rid of the occasional, but frustrating, rubbing noise. Hope this helped!
