Folks, I went and had a look at the car for sale that I mentioned last week. Owner: Zonald Hargus Car: THPNMB02413 (it's in the registry under his name) An early '72 (January) with just under 28,000 miles actual He used to be a member of Space City Panteras, but hasn't been a member for some time. The other members remember him. The car: Was originally the factory bright red but Zonald has 'painted it himself' to a much darker red; almost burgundy. It's Emron and Zonald seems pretty proud of the paint job. I wasn't _that_ impressed. There are small dents on the right side where his '68 GT-350 Shelby's door handle has hit it in a few places. There are some rust bubbles on the leading edge of the hood. On the left side in front of the door are what looks to be a couple of small filled areas which weren't quite sanded off completely. There's an electric antenna mounted on the left front fender. He has the small front spoiler like mine, but never put it on. The car has a white set of stripes running along the rockers and doors which has 'Pantera' in white letters inside of it. I've seen this scheme before and he says he put it on himself. Maybe from Hall? Don't know... Having said all of that, I couldn't find any rust that would worry me. There's some surface stuff in the engine bay from sitting around so long, but it's extremely minor. I looked behind the front wheels, had a good look up under the gas tank, etc. I couldn't find any sign of telltale weak spots and I poked pretty hard... Stock exhaust, but has headers. Small diameter tail pipes. He has the parts book, ZF parts book, manual, original spare tire, jack, tools, etc. 7" and 8" Campagnolos with Goodyear Arrivas on them! (Shudder....) Interior is in very good shape. Seat belt on passenger side has latch broken. Has a third party console extension between the seats. Engine fired right up (much to his surprise!), but it's obvious that it's not been driven awhile; old gas, carb sticky, etc.. No blue smoke. Zonald claims it's a 'CJ' engine, whatever that means... He says it's a '71 engine. Maybe someone else knows better what that means; if anything. It's got the black wrinkled coated valve covers with Detomaso logos on them. Chrome after market air cleaner. Engine cover is the flat one. i.e., it doesn't have a bulge for the aircleaner like mine does. I didn't drive it. Zonald told me the 'brakes drag', so I would assume that a complete brake job is definitely in order. He said it never overheats, even in Houston. It's taxed and licensed, but does not have a current inspection. Any other questions from interested parties? He wants $20K 'as is' and when asked if he was firm on it, he hesitated and said, 'Make me an offer.' I didn't, but hinted that $17K-18K would be more reasonable. That didn't make him too happy, but I'd bet he'd talk. He plans to spend time and money soon on it to 'fix it up' and plans on asking $25K for it. I don't think he'll get it. There's a lot of other cars out there that are in better driving condition and for the same price... Summary: An almost completely stock car in good shape body and interior wise. Paint is pretty fair and would probably look pretty good when cleaned up. (It was very dusty from the car cover he had on it) Would need a complete brake job, carb rebuild, new tires and most likely suspension bushings would start becoming a problem later on. A/C needs work; it doesn't. By the way, his '68 GT-350, 94,000 miles, blue with black interior is also for sale for $27,500. It's a nice car, but not really my style.... Later guys. Remember, give me a yell if you want more info and I can get his phone numbers and address to you if needed.
