	As a small reminder, BAR-97 (AKA Smog Check II) became operational

Dec 1.  http://smogcheck.ca.gov/ has a lot of details and FAQs.



	FWIW, as of Nov 24, nearly 2,000 out of some 4,600 licensed 

Smog Check stations located in Enhanced Areas had purchased BAR-97

equipment; those stations may be extremely busy immediately following 

the December 1 cutoff, until more stations are up and running with 

the new equipment.



	Heh, heh.  "Extremely busy" is an understatement.  With half

as many stations doing smog, the tests taking perhaps 4 times as long

to conduct (because of the extra tests, unfamiliartity with equipment, etc)

and the same number of cars requiring smog inspection, I'd say there are

plenty of very frustrated people out there.



	For the requisite Pantera content, please remember that the smog-test

exemption of pre-74 cars on Jan 1 does not entitle you to remove all the

smog equipment.  Indeed, your car is still expected to retain all the smog

equipment, AND conform to smog requirements.
