Subject: A midwest track event

OK, the issue seems to have died and gone to heaven on the list here, but

as Mike says, someone has to start something....



I mentioned Texas World Speedway as a place to have a 'midwest track event'

at earlier on, so I checked up on it.



As of today, there are the following weekends available at TWS (this is the

track near College Station, not the new one in the Dallas area which I've

never seen).



August 15-16

September 5-6

October 3-4



For a full weekend, the cost is $7,900 for the 1.8 mile track (course shown

by the little red line at

if you're interested).



This includes:	Ambulance

		Wrecker

		Fire and safety crew

		Security both Saturday and Sunday plus over Saturday night



Organizers (that'd be us guys) take care of the insurance, which for a

'non-racing' event runs about $400.



I mention the above dates because they are all after Pocono, Silver State

and Vegas... Didn't want to conflict.



What thinks the midwest folks or anyone else interested?



Anyone got comparable (i.e., cheaper!) prices from other places? Heartland?

I'm afraid SCP isn't quite ready to fund the whole thing if there are

no-shows.... and have to eat it.



I'm going to propose this at this weekend's Space City Panteras meeting and

see whether I get shot at or not, but I'm sure we don't have enough people

from the Houston area to make it worthwhile. The Dallas Pantera Club would

also have to join in to get anywhere near a decent price per person.



Now, assuming there's not enough people to make a go of the track all to

ourselves, the other option is that all interested contact me, I find out

how many there are, and I book enough slots in one of the TWS Motorsports

Club events. The owner will fill in the above dates anyway if he doesn't

get anyone else to take them.



This means you'd have a chance to go up against the odd Camaro, Mustang,

Cobra, them plastic thingies (one of which is pretty darned impressive!),

an odd Ferrari or Diablo, Porsche, or even a race car that someone brings

every now and then to iron out chassis improvements, etc. Not a bad thing,

eh?

The TWS Motorsports Club runs classes, so you can't get in over your head

unless you want to!



Remember, I'm certainly not going for a 'Vegas replacement with car show,

etal. I'd like to start making it to some of these events myself.

This is just a 'midwest track event' that I thought I'd take a stab at

where guys can bring their Panteras and have some fun without going all the

way to Pocono or Willow Springs...



Waiting for suggestions, opposition, flames, etc. with bated breath.
