It is sensitive to chemicals. It also wears off easily (like in and out of a holster). There are many companies in the US that offer other coatings. Generally much stronger than the 'old method'. The cost might likely exclude this avenue...Treatments for guns need to be harder, and handle heat. Thus you pay for this. Do you need this on a door handle ? Perhaps.
