I think you can still buy Carter carbs as well as get the Edelbrock which is the same. Here in podunk Spokane, I don't really know. As for working better, YES. At least here in this climate. The Holley I had was difficult to tune, messy and required constant attention. I then purchased a new Carter, and it ran so nice right out of the box. I ended buying the strip kit which has lotso jets and metering rods. I did a few calculations and changed jets. After that, it was a matter of tuning via metering rods. I got one with the electric choke and mechanical secondaries. The air valve regulates the flow on the secondaries. I could never get the vacuum secondaries on my Holley to work quite right. I am very impressed with the performance of this carb. I have since sold the Holley, which had Ford Factory Part number (list #) for a 69 Mach I, to a friend in our local Mustang Club who was restoring a 69 Mach I. He was very pleased to have an orginal "correct" carb for his car. He has had very good luck with it. So I don't really have anything bad to say about Holley. I just find the Carte easier to work with. Asa Jay
