The AOD shift pattern in my friend's Mustang was 1-D-OD. Ie no second gear

selection. THat didn't mean you couldn't select 2nd gear, though. Just

manually shift 1-D somewhere near redline and the pop it back into 1. This

would keep it from shifting to 3rd, but it was also smart enough not to go

back into 1st. As you can well imagine, this took some convincing on his

part, but he eventually got up enough gut to try it, and it worked. His

may have been electronically controlled, though (1990 Mustang).
