I did the opposite when I swapped my 302 & C4 for a 351C & C6 in my '68 Cougar. To do so, we had to shorten the drive shaft, change the mounting hardware, and improvise the linkage. All in all, it took a while to sort out the linkage problem. For a while, the Cougar would get stuck and refuse to shift into drive unless I crawled under the car and manipulated the linkage. The last time it did that, I ended up running the car over myslelf-but that's another story. We got it right after I earned a treadmark across my chest. The moral is, swapping Ford auto tranny's includes a few things that one does not always anticipate.
