My daily driver is a Miata, so the Elise is very appealing.  However,

a friend of mine, here in Dallas, traded for a very clean and well

kept Elan about a year ago.  He could not believe the cost to maintain

that little sucker.  Parts and maintenance, at the Lotus shop due to

warranty restrictions, made it unbearable.  It was a long held dream

to own one, but he went into cardiac arrest every time anything had to

be done to it.



Granted this was an Elan and you probably won't drive yours everyday

(nor a Pantera for that matter), my advice is also to buy the Pantera

now, while their prices are still soft, and wait for the Lotus

hysteria to cool off. And the insurance on the Lotus!  Ouch!!!



I bought my several year old Miata after that boom for a great price

and have loved every minute of it.  Maybe you'll be able to keep both

if you buy the Pantera first and wait on the Lotus.  Driving my Miata

and Pantera makes a great contrast.
