My L has the early dash..... I did this recently.....so my memory is fresh. I had the same problems, and I finally got to that snap-ring...real tough.....once apart....guess what ? You can un-thread the rod ! Also to get the bolts out that go through the bulkhead you can use a long screwdriver to pry against one face of the bolt as your helper (you NEED two people) turns....Or you can get a socket on one of the two, the bottom bolt if I remember correctly. But the other had to take the scredriver technique. If you need more info...reply...or if I can clarify things...... Chuck #4580 ======== I am trying to remove my clutch master cylinder for rebuild or replacement, but can't get it free from the aluminum bulkhead. I have disconnected the fluid line, removed the two mounting bolts, and removed the pin from the clevis under the dash; yet it still will not come free. I can get one or two millimeters of gap between the cylinder housing and the bulkhead, but no more. Major prying force from two screwdrivers will not budge it any further. It feels like there is a snap ring or something holding the master cylinder in place, but the service manual and TSB's do not show any such thing. I tried to pull back the rubber bellows from the actuation shaft under the dash, but could not get it loose. What could be holding this SOB in place?? My car is an early '72 pre-L model, #2548. ---------------------------------- Internet Communications Of America
