I remember finding on the web another alternative to R-12.  There is

something called FR-12 (?) from Penzoil.  It is supposed to work in a R-12

system without having to change all the seals.  It is also supposed have

better availability than R-12 (read cost less) and better cooling capability

than R-134.  Check the penzoil web page for it. Again, I'm not sure if that

was where it came from, but I will verify it.
