ZF ring gear bolts are well known as being hardened all the way thru and thus are rather brittle. There is darn little clearance room inside, so if they back out more than a turn or two, they smack the case & break off. Most POCA guys pull the stock bolts & replace them with US- made grade 8s that are drilled & safety-wired in pairs. An easy way to verify busted bolts is to drain the gear oil- typically, you'll get a couple of bolt heads out of the bottom with the drain oil. Also typically, the damage is fixable simply by R & R-ing the bolts without welding up the case gouges (cosmetic damage). Good luck- almost anything else is mega-bucks. J DeRyke
