Avgas works to control detonation on 8" dia cylinders in airplane engines by
having a very slow burn rate. In smaller dia, high-revving motors, its still
burning nicely when the exhaust valve opens! I saw an early Triumph 650
running 115/145 avgas, trailing a 5 foot flame from both straight pipes. This
did not endear him to the cops, needless to say. The slow burn rate seems to
cause overheating and tempts you to over-advance the ignition. Plus, if the
Law catches you, they'll likely nail you for estimated unpaid road taxes on
the for-airplane-use-only avgas. Other than that,.... J DeRyke
